Our Clinical Project with the Urological Center for Advanced Urological Diseases at Lake City Hospital involves the use of Cannabidiol for pain and discomfort post RIRS (Retrograde Intrarenal surgery), in the post-ureteroscopy setting, and in urological cancer for symptomatic pain management.

The aim of the cannabidiol (CBD) research studies is to evaluate the efficacy of cannabidiol's analgesic and antinociceptive properties in mitigating pain and stent discomfort in the post-RIRS and post-ureteroscopy setting. Cannabidiol's efficacy represents an alternative analgesic to opioid dependence and we intend to evaluate its anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive effects

In addition, we are working together with Soma Living Roots (Clinical Neurosciences & Transpersonal Community) on a project focused on alleviating pain, depression, and anxiety associated with end-stage cancer. The study's main objective is to investigate the impact of MCAP (Medical cannabis-assisted Psychotherapy) on treating depressive and anxiety disorders in terminally ill cancer patients.

The proposed cannabis research studies aim to extend the use of medical cannabis to a specific group of cancer patients with a guarded prognosis.

Regarding the use of medical cannabis in oncology, the effectiveness of orally administered cannabis medicine in the sublingual form or as suppositories has consistently shown positive results in relieving symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and cancer pain that is unresponsive to opioids. While the anxiety and depression-relieving properties of medical cannabis over an extended period of time are well-documented, its unique potential for alleviating anxiety and spiritual distress related to end-of-life issues and expectations remains to be explored.

Independent case reports from cancer patients at Lake City Hospital indicate several positive outcomes, including improved appetite, reduced nausea, pain, lethargy, and fatigue. Patients also experience a sense of well-being, euphoria, alertness, heightened awareness, and insight into their own condition.

Furthermore, patients report feeling more secure and better equipped to manage aversive memory triggers and anxiety associated with their disease. They also describe a sense of spiritual calmness following the therapeutic administration of medical cannabis during the process of psycho-synthesis.
